September 2008 - C. Pollard, Appling, GA
"I teach first grade SS at Kiokee Baptist Church in Appling, Georgia
and we are winding up the curriculum on the 23rd Psalm. I am so sad it
is almost over. This 13 lesson curriculum has been the most fun
material I have taught in over 20 years. Thank you for your help in
teaching God's Word to children."
Wonderful teaching resource, By A Customer This
book is illustratively appealing and provides an age appropriate life
application of the word of God. Although the illustration was geared
toward the younger ages, I feel it is universally useful for teaching
the meaning of the 23rd Psalm.
The Best 23rd Psalm, By A Customer In
regards to the vast array of books commenting on Psalm 23, I thoroughly
enjoyed this book. Dave and Helen Haidle uniquely shows the reader the
life of a shepherd and how he cares for his sheep (all in correlation
to the verses of the psalm) just as Christ cares for us. This book is a
new and excellent way to view Psalm 23. | |

Review on Amazon.com: Currently
one other teacher and I are using the Psalm 23 curriculum with two
groups for Wednesday evening Bible classes: K-2nd and 3rd-4th. The kids
are amazing us with their memorization and more importantly
understanding of this passage as we work through the lessons. They
enjoy the challenge and truly look forward to being in class.
Activities are easy and fun to do--preparation is not difficult. The
Bible story that ties in with the portion of the psalm presented each
week effectively enhances the truth being taught. I've come across
other materials with connections that are a stretch but that has not
been the case with these. I think the take-home activities are great,
and I hope they are being used. (Occasionally I may use one of the
activities from the family sheets in lieu of one from the regular
selections.) --Carrie Leslie, Burke, VA
I loved the Psalm 23
picture book. I have read it so many different times and used it with
the children in my classroom. I even read it at a tea party that I just
had for two young girls and their mothers. The girls and their mothers
loved to hear the explanation of each phrase in the 23rd Psalm, plus
the pictures are so graphic and give such good understanding as to the
meaning of the verse. --Nancy - 1st Grade at San Jose Christian School

BOOK REVIEW: Recent letter from M Pelton in Nebraska: "Hello David and
Helen, I have to tell you how much I love The Lord is My Shepherd!!! A
year ago, after trying to explain A Shepherd’s Look at Psalm 23 by
Phillip Keller by summarizing pages for my then three year old and six
year old daughters, I thought about writing a book on Psalm 23 for
kids. After some time studying the Psalm, I took some notes etc. and I
picked up Keller’s book again and discovered that he had already
written one. I was thrilled and relieved until I realized that I
couldn’t get a copy. I see now, how God gave the project to you and
your husband. I’m so glad that he did! I never felt a strong desire to
be the one to write it, I just wanted my kids and others to benefit
from it. When I looked online a year ago for such a book, I didn’t find
anything; probably because yours was not yet on the market.
The
illustrations are absolutely beautiful! The soft colors lend to the
sense of love, peace and contentment portrayed. The expressions on the
sheep’s faces are very touching and are those in which readers can
identify. I love the eyes of the sheep immersed in the bowl of water
and in his shepherd’s love. The sheep look like little children on the
following page. They reveal that the sheep have an awareness-as we do.
I
felt the height, breadth and depth of our Shepherd’s love all at once
after reading The Lord is My Shepherd. There’s something about being
able to count the ways he loves me and have them all in my mind at
once, in a short period of time and with such gentle words and
pictures-without having to read 200+ pages. I felt surrounded. I could
actually picture myself in the palm of God’s hand.
I love the
way you quote each verse, explain it in easy to understand language and
invite reader’s to make the verse a personal invitation for God to work
in their lives. Your explanations are not simplistic. You provide the
same depth of knowledge only a shepherd could offer as Keller does in A
Shepherd’s Look… Thank you for that! It’s the underlying meaning that
gives the Psalm so much more meaning.
This is a very warm and
beautiful book. You have both made God proud by your use of the talents
He has given you. My eyes filled with tears upon reading your
inscription, as this is what I want for my children. This book is a
blessing! Thank you both." Sincerely, Mindy Pelton
